Samenvatting

The toughness and good chemical resistance of epoxy resins which were originally developed as adhesives and paints, has led to any examination of their possibility as road surfacing binders. Research has now been progress for some years and several instances of the commercial use of resin. based surfacing are known in Great Britain. This article describes the range of use on roads and bridges to which epoxy resins have been put and review have been put and review the present state of research and experience. A section of the article is devoted to a detailed discussion of the types of resin and resin aggregate mixtures used and to the techniques of mixing and laying. It is concluded that epoxy resins are promising materials for certain specialised application, notably as adhesives for bonding non-skid aggregates to concrete, and as binder for thin surfacing on bridge deck, where lightness is important. It is emphasised however, that experience is still limited, particular on heavily traffic road and bridges.
