Indications, results and complications of the early treatment of fractures of the femoral shaft by internal fixation are reported. In 120 cases treated by intramedullary nailing was one nonunion and two cases of infection. In 22 patients treated by plate fixation after complicated or comminuted fractures there were 6 cases of delayed union and one of secondary infection.
