The availability of actual data of emissions and fuel consumption from the traffic sector is an essential basis for environmental reporting, the preparation of regulations and policy decisions. Due to the continuous development of environmental regulations, detailed information on the emissions of road users are increasingly required. For this reason, the development of the emission calculation model TREMOD was initiated in the early 90's on behalf of the Federal Environment Agency in Germany, in order to query detailed information concerning emissions, fuel- and energy consumption for road-, rail-, air-, and waterway transport in Germany. The input database for the road traffic sector in TREMOD consists of real emission- and fuel consumption data of almost all current vehicle categories in terms of emission factors. The emission factors are collected within the Handbook of Emission Factors of road traffic (HBEFA), which is supplemented continuously by new vehicle concepts and technologies. As a part of this project current alternative drive concepts and new energy sources were implemented into TREMOD in order to assess their impacts on the fuel- and energy consumption and the relevant emissions of road traffic in Germany within scenarios up to 2050. The features of the new concepts and technologies and their characteristic as well as the implementation of the related data base into TREMOD are described in detail within this report. Finally, an example of a trend scenario is carried out by means of modeling with TREMOD taking into account the newly introduced technologies. (Author/publisher)
