Samenvatting

During the last decade passenger car ownership in Greece rose with an average annual rate of 15% - one of the highest in Europe- but it only reached 88 cars per 1000 people in 1979. Since 1978 a slow down is observed in ownership growth rates owing to general economic conditions but mostly to the sharp increase of gasoline and antomobile prices. It is concluded that car ownership in Greece in year 2000 may range from a maximum level of 250 cars per 1000 people to a minimum level of 190 cars per 1000 people.
