Samenvatting

Noise level from a motorway appears to be the single most important cause for a drop in value from 20-30% in neighbouring houses, according to a survey from estate agents. Home interview regarding traffic noise were held near an urban motorway in Toledo. Most people in the immediate vicinity would not consider relocation near a motorway. An "acceptability index" is derived from the response, to the interviews, and an exponential function is developed to evaluate noise generated by cars and lorries. Reasonable good agreement is obtained with actual noise measurements and the pattern from noise lines. Wind noise proved to be the most disturbing factor in these measurements.
