The study of estimations is very difficult in real traffic environment at least on a large scale. Therefore films have been made from three different traffic situations. These films were presented to a group of drivers for obtaining estimates of (a) distances of stationary vehicle, (b) velocities of an oncoming vehicle and (c) velocities of the driver's own vehicle. The last situation was repeated in the real environment. It was found that the driver overestimates distances and underestimates velocities of both his own vehicle and other vehicles approaching him.
