Samenvatting

In order to analyse the nature of visual information used by the driver in time-to-collision estimates, we conducted an experiment on a circuit in actual driving conditions. Experienced drivers and beginners, who were passengers in the car, had to indicate the moment they expected a collision with a stationary obstacle. Findings suggest that experienced drivers tend to use time and distance information whereas beginners rely on speed and distance data.
