The demonstration, aimed at proving the feasibility of an overall system of electronic traffic aids, was given from April 1983 to April 1984 on the A 13 motorway in the Netherlands, where major equipment had just been installed. The equipment comprised variable- message signs on overhead gantries, traffic detection installations, data- processing terminals, transmission control units, and a central computer.
