Samenvatting

The internal market - open for all types of transport - will be in operation as from 1 January 1993. A common transport policy is proposed to provide for future needs. In the near future the same provisions and conditions will also function for the rest of Europe based on the "acquis communautaire" which has already been achieved for the European Community. However in reality many obstacles still exist and many provisions are still lacking. Both occurrences are caused by remaining differences in regulation, by insufficient information interchange between market partners and an insufficient infrastructure. This article however sketches this homogeneous transport market system as if it were one information system with common input, output and control conditions. The output is added value created by the market integration process. The inputs are the market improvements produced by reregulation and which provide, among other things, both information and infrastructure based on common policy and institutional cooperation between the parties involved. All parties will use telematics (Electronic Data Interchange) as standardized in EDI For Administration, Commerce and Transport (EDIFACT), and Freight and Logistics Efforts for European Traffic (FLEET) programmes for the development of their individually combined 'single market logistics'.
