Samenvatting

The risk of an accident is particularly high in towns and cities across the EU. Most accidents occur in urban areas; in addition, most injuries are sustained in built-up areas. This is mainly because in urban areas, all kinds of users are on the road at the same time in a confined space. From the viewpoints of accident research, traffic psychology and testing technology, the new DEKRA Road Safety Report 2014 shows in detail, which are the special accident risks and which measures can improve safety on rural roads. As its predecessors, the report is intended to be more than a mere accumulation of facts about the status quo. It is supposed to provide thought-provoking impulse for politicians, traffic and infrastructure experts, vehicle manufacturers and science, as well as organizations and all road users.
