Samenvatting
The European Commission has already facilitated the development of travel and traffic information services for almost ten years. This is to support the implementation of these services in a standardised way throughout Europe. Support has been given to both broadcast based systems (RDS/TMC) and 2-way telecom based systems (GSM). Both are now on the brink of implementation. Together with the Member States and industry, the European Commission is making a special effort for the actual implementation of RDS/TMC services in Europe as one of the steps towards personalised transport telematic services. Industry, telecom operators and service providers are also introducing new types of services based on GSM.
