Evaluation of the new style BROEM course; A survey among older drivers. This report contains an evaluation of the Dutch BROEM course. BROEM is an acronym for the Dutch words meaning Broad Consultation Elderly and Mobility and it is a Dutch national cooperation of the Royal Dutch Touring Club ANWB, the mobility branch organization BOVAG and the Dutch Traffic Safety Association. The BROEM course offers the elderly driver a relaxed opportunity to obtain expert advice on his or her driving style during a trial drive. The reason for the evaluation is twofold. In 2008, the BROEM course and the accompanying reference book were updated. The BROEM organization wanted to know how those who followed the new course judged its quality and what adjustments might be needed. At the same time the Knowledge Platform for Traffic and Transport, SWOV, and the regional road safety partners wanted to evaluate the BROEM course as part of the project entitled EVEO, a study of the effects of traffic education. They were interested in the effectiveness of this specific educational programme and in whether it reaches the intended audience. Are the participants only those drivers who are still fit, who behave safely, and who have a critical attitude towards their own driving skills and fitness to drive? Or are drivers who themselves have serious doubts about their driving skills and drivers who overestimate their driving skills among the participants?
