This paper is broken into several sections. First, the paper will discussthe factors which have in Britain to the growth of interest in user-responsive transportation for disabled and elderly people. Second, the paper outlines some of the specifics which characterize transportation in the United Kingdom (U.K.), and which may distinguish conditions from those in other countries. Third, the paper will outline some key characteristics of theRediBus Service, a user-responsive service established in the town of Reading, England in 1981. Fourth, the paper provides profiles of users and non-users of the service and evaluation of some of the many benefits generated by this type of service. The paper concludes by considering the methodological and policy implications of the research.
