Samenvatting

TruckSim at TRL in the UK provides a dedicated training facility for drivers of commercial vehicles. The effectiveness of the simulator as a training tool was evaluated. The acceptance of the simulator as a training tool was evaluated in a large scale trial in which 616 commercial vehicle drivers were required to complete a combination of training exercises. These included reversing, urban, high speed bends and poor weather exercises. The evaluation aimed to identify user groups that might experience more or less benefits from the training. Participants were asked to rate levels of simulator sickness, perceived similarity to driving a truck, quality of the simulation, handling realism and acceptance as a training tool. The truck simulator received a positive response from the truck drivers who participated in the study. For the covering entry of this conference please see ITRD E132365
