Samenvatting

Field Operational Test (FOT) of Advanced Cruise-assist Highway Systems (AHS) using vehicle-highway communication has been performed since 2007 in Japan. For AHS deployment, the effectiveness of AHS must be quantitatively clarified. However, due to difficulty in data observation of accidents andhuman errors, methods to qualitatively evaluate effectiveness of safety have not yet been established. This paper introduces an overview of evaluation methods conducted so far, by taking examples of the proving tests and FOT. The evaluation indices include acceptability to users in addition to the verification of system functions. Finally appropriate viewpoints and issues for quantitative evaluation are discussed.
