In view of increasing traffic and poor accessibility across the rivers in most of the cities in India, the planning of bridge approaches across the rivers has been imperative for safety and efficiency of traffic operations. Looking at the scenario of the problems of bridge approaches, a case study of a bridge approach of Nizamuddin located at southern part of Delhi has been studied in a comprehensive manner. With a view to selecting the best alternative for planning of the bridge approaches, a number of alternatives were prepared, tested and evaluated with respect to existing and future traffic. Finally, the study has been concluded by identifying the best alternative with a detailed cost benefit analysis. It is worth mentioning that the best alternative identified is envisaged to be implemented shortly. (Author/publisher) For the covering entry of this conference, please see ITRD abstract no. E208431.
