The aim of the report is to provide overview and evaluations of current drowsiness detection systems and methods to prevent sleepiness of drivers. The study also takes into account the state-of-the-art literature and latest developments as presented at International Conference on Fatigue Management in Transport Operations (March 24-26 2009, Boston, USA). Chapter two starts with a literature background on sleepiness at the wheel, describes the target groups and describes the measures that can be taken to prevent sleepiness at the wheel. Chapter three focuses on in-car solutions i.e. non-invasive drowsiness detection systems, based on physical activity, eye detection, driving performance and multiple measures. The annexes provide more detail on the in-car solutions. Chapter four gives the conclusions and recommendations; which systems and approaches seem most promising for driver drowsiness prevention?
