Samenvatting

This report contains an evaluation of existing information on the performance of various protective strategies used on concrete bridge decks at the time of their construction. Corroding reinforcing steel has been a major cause of bridge deck deterioration. Over the years, several methods and techniques have been employed during construction to prevent or inhibit the egress of chloride ions from deicing salts. Chloride ions are a major contributor to the corrosion process. Bridge construction, design, and maintenance engineers will be interested in the findings and recommendations of the research. Researchers will find the report to be an excellent source of data on the effectiveness of the various strategies. (A)
