The objective of this study was to evaluate the conditions under which the construction, maintenance, and interest costs for a median lane would be warranted at suburban and rural approaches to an intersection. Delay times and accident rates to through vehicles caused by left-turning vehicles were analysed in depth at three right-angle intersections which had median lanes, and at eight right-angle intersections which did not.
