Recently, Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA) systems have received considerable attention from automobile designers. The relationship between maximum automatic deceleration and the resulting stress on drivers and passengers is examined. The startled state and nervous state were measured using aPulse Wave as the stress indicator, and subjective reactions were measured using a questionnaire. Stress, as measured by both the startled state rate and subjective score rose as deceleration increased. However, the stress as measured by the nervous state rate was just the opposite. Furthermore, it was found that stress is influenced by field of vision. For the covering abstract see E134653.
