Samenvatting

The purpose of this study was to determine the overall effectiveness of the spot-improvement program in Kentucky safety improvements have been made at 349 locations. Before- and after accident summaries were made at these locations as well as locations where the investigation resulted in no recommendations for improvements. From the analyses, it was found that the spot-improvement program has resulted in a significant reduction in accidents at high-accident location sites. The favorable benefit-cost ratios which were obtained indicated the cost of the program has been a good investment. Severity of the accidents was found to have not changed significantly.
