Samenvatting

In the EEC, research programmes on biomechanics are originated and supported. The results of these various studies must be evaluated through their ability to fill existing gaps in the present knowledge. Considering the width and difficulty of the problems to be solved, it has never been expected that these programmes would result in a definitive answer to all the questions considered. Some research studies could only give limited elements of information, and their importance however must not be underestimated as far as they show a direction for further research work. For this reason, the present evaluation does not intend to give the results of a critical examination for each study but rather, within the various results, to indicate what is at the moment usable, what represents a significant input and what shows a direction of research for the coming years.
