Samenvatting

This paper reports on an evaluation of three technologies which were intended to slow vehicles in and around interstate highway work zones. The first was a device continuously broadcasting a warning message over Citizen Band radio channel warning approaching drivers. This was evaluated in a moving work zone and received very positive comments from motorists. The second device was a drone-radar device which would cause drivers of cars equipped with radar detectors to think they were approaching enforcement personal detecting their speed with radar. The drone radar device had no impact on reducing the number of speeding motorists. The third was a speed display monitor where the speed of an approaching vehicle was displayed on a variable message sign along side the road. The speed display monitor had only marginal impact on the speeds of motorists.
