Samenvatting

The substance of the operational system and performance evaluation studies to which GIDS has been subjected thus far are described in this chapter. These studies are by no means to be considered as exhaustive, but they rather form an initial empirical check of the ideas behind GIDS that could possibly reveal that these are blatant nonsense when really brought into the open. The reasoning behind these experiments is first presented. The first empirical study, which was carried out in the Small World Simulation facility is then described. A second empirical study is then presented. This gives an overall comparison of the performance of the system in real-world traffic conditions in which the driver is either given or not given the benefit of GIDS support. This experiment was carried out in the city of Utrecht in The Netherlands. The concluding section provides a discussion and a summary of the results obtained in these evaluation trials. For the covering abstract see IRRD 859107.
