Samenvatting

This study attempts to determine and compare the merits of three methods for determining safe driving speeds for horizontal curves. Two of the methods involve obtaining instrument readings while driving around a curve at a fied speed. The methods differ in that a ball bank indicator is used in one, while a Devil Level is used with the other. The third method utilises a graph and requires that the radius and super elevation of the curve be known of determined by field measurements. There does not appear to be an appreciable difference between the results of the three methods, all of which are satisfactory when proper information concerning the curves is known.
