The authors discuss the use of SIMALC, a method used to simulate the effects of alcohol which is used for educational purposes by health and social workers in France. The objectives of the study were a) to assess the degree of usage of the method and b) to assess the reaction of subjects and the effect on them. The results are tabulated. SIMALC is shown to be most usually used in small groups of under 20 and that reactions to the the method are positive. No evidence was available concerning effects but areas for further research are identified.
