Samenvatting

Value of travel time saving is a critical parameter in transport projects and through its application produces the dominating user benefit. It's also an important parameter in travel behaviour analysis and traffic assignment. Based on neoclassical micro-economic theory, this paper theoretically analyses whether and how value of travel time saving varies according to travel and economic environment in the first. And then an empirical practice, discrete choice analysis is carried out to describe variation of value of travel time saving. A revelled preference (RP) data about mode choice for travelling between the main six economic regions in Japan, Tokyo, Chukyo, Kansai, Hukuoka, Hirosima, and Sentai, provides the data source for the empirical analysis. The results provide useful information about evaluation of travel time saving to the intercity travel behaviour analysis, and directly to the benefit analysis of transport projects for intercity travel.
