Samenvatting

In 1983, the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia, Canada became involved in advocating the use of child restraints. A study was undertaken in 1997, using existing insurance claim data, to better define the problem of child restraint use. Data was collected on a total of 188 injured child passengers aged 0-10 years. The majority of the children were restrained at the time of the crash. Over 90% of the children aged three years or older were restrained by the adult seat belt only. Greater emphasis needs to be given to the simple message to restrain the child using the appropriate restraint system. (A)
