Samenvatting

Automatic screed control system have been devised in an attempt to improve the riding quality of pavements. This paper describes the problems and results encountered with various control systems on one specific recap project, during which a paver was controlled manually, by rolling stringline and by dual fixed stringlines. Various problems and adjustments are described in detail and results of measurements on test sections reported. The use of automatic screed control is considered to produce an improved riding surface, but cost must be considered in deciding the sophistication of the system to be employed.
