Samenvatting

This work examined the experiences of elderly adults who stopped driving due to a visual impairment. 162 adults (60-80+ yrs) completed surveys concerning reasons for stopping driving. Results show 91% of subjects (Ss) stopped driving solely because of a visual impairment. Nearly 70% of Ss had stopped driving on their own. 50% of Ss had experienced macular degeneration. 30 Ss maintained a valid driver's license. 67% of Ss had at least 1 form of public transportation in their communities, but only 33% used such methods of transportation.
