Vehicle priority at intersections is the most powerful means to increase the speed of the Public Transport vehicles. The most common way of doing this is the decentralized approach in which the vehicle is detected at a fixed point before the intersection by a specific detection system. When a centralized UTCS and a Public Transport AVMCS exists, a more efficient way of implementing priority is to link the central computers of the two systems. The two approaches are described and the advantages of the second one, proved in many actual implementations, are highlighted.
