Many drivers tend to converge into the inner circulating lane of normal roundabouts, and the outer lane is little used between weaving sections. This report describes several experiments which have been carried out at a roundabout on the A40 (Western Avenue) near Uxbridge. It was found that a single lane marking round the circulating carriageway, together with arrows, hat the effect of increasing threefold the proportion of car drivers keeping wholly in the outer part of the carriageway, when going straight ahead thought the junction in off-peak traffic.
