Samenvatting

A study was conducted to determine the weight that the transport variables characterising the accessibility and quality of services have on the choice of two types of holiday: 'sun and sand' and 'wine and food'. Data werecollected using questionnaires from 6000 tourists visiting Sardinia during August-October 2003. Questions related to the reason for choosing Sardinia as a holiday destination, type of accommodation chosen, length of stay, time of year of stay, means of travel used to travel to Sardinia, willingness to go on an alternative tour in the island's interior, type of alternative tour chose (archaeological tour, seaside tour, wine and food tour, sport tour, folklore tour), means of transport for the alternative tour, characteristics of transport mode used for the tour, and maximum price tourists were prepared to pay for the tour. Traditional and multivariate statistical analyses were used to identify and determine both the weight of the variables and their correlation.
