Lack of scientific knowledge as to what features of the road and terrain drivers respond to prompted the study reported in this artioleo In an attempt to determine what these features might be an experiment was conducted to measure drivers' visual inputs when their vision was isolated by alimiting aperture de- vice. Use of this technique forced the driver to look for por- tions of the road from which he could get this essential infor- mation.
