Samenvatting

This paper discusses issues encountered during the preparation of TD40 Layout of Compact Grade Separated Junctions. This document is designed to provide advice on the design of new or replacement junctions where local routes cross trunk roads. It applies particularly to rural situations although possible application to urban areas is noted. General layout considerations are discussed and typical layouts for compact grade separation illustrated. In each case a compact connector road links the local and trunk roads. Details of design standards for the compact connector road are considered. Operational considerations and the economic evaluation of schemes are discussed.
