Samenvatting

The large number of injury accidents at urban traffic signal junctions led to a study of the problem at 3- and 4-arm signal junctions on single carriageway roads subject to a 30mph speed limit. This paper describes the processes involved in the study of 3-arm signals including a) site selection, b) data collection and processing and c) the development of accident predicting relationships. It outlines characteristics of the junction sample and the associated accidents and discusses the resulting accident predictive models which were developed for a number of purposes.
