Samenvatting

In order to disclose factors influencing the decision to drive or not to drive after drinking, 11 939 questionnaires were distributed to drivers in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. Questions included concerned drinking habits, perceived risk of detection, penalties for driving under influence (DUI), attitudes towards DUI, previous cases of DUI, expected future cases of DUI, and factors influencing the decision to drive or not to drive while intoxicated. In addition questions derived from Ajzen and Fishbein's theory on "reasoned actions" - e.g. social norms related to DUI, expected consequences of DUI, intention to DUI - were included. The results show both similarities and differences between the Nordic countries.
