The article reviews the 1,269 sleepy driver, fatal and injury causing vehicle crashes occurring over a 6-year period in Tennessee. The analysis discusses the accident profiles and trends in terms of their implications for addressing this serious problem in traffic safety. The results indicate that younger drivers, ages 15-21, are more at risk for sleep related accidents. The analysis also indicates that rumble strips could be effective in reducing sleep related, run-off-road, interstate accidents.
