Samenvatting

In this paper the radar system of "Stanley" is described. Stanley was thewinning vehicle of the DAPRA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) Grand Challenge in 2005. The American Department of Defense announced a race competition through desert environment with unmanned vehicles. 195 different teams started developments on different vehicles at the end of 2004.The Stanford Racing Team is among those teams and it consists of members of the Stanford University, Palo Alto/ California, the Volkswagen Electronics Research Laboratory, Palo Alto/ California and the Volkswagen Electronics Group Research, Wolfsburg/ Germany. This team developed a specially equipped Volkswagen Touareg with a set of sensors and actuators. Details about the radar system with special focus on antenna design, transmit waveform and signal processing are presented in this paper. For the covering abstract see E134653.
