Existing models of the relationship between the speed of traffic and road safety have been updated. There are two main models: The Power Model and an exponential model. Both models are well-supported and can be used. Studies of the relationship between speed dispersion and road safety have been reviewed. The studies indicate that increased speed dispersion is associated with an increased risk of accidents. It is, however, still not possible to model the relationship mathematically. (Author/publisher)
