Fatal Accident Reporting System 1987. A review of information on fatal traffic accidents in the United States in 1987.

In 1987 there were 46386 fatalities in 41435 fatal accidents. This is an increase from 1986 in the number of fatalities (0.6%) and fatal accidents (0.8%). There were an estimated 23630 alcohol- related traffic fatalities in 1987, which is a 6.1% decrease over the number of 1982. The reported restraint usage by passenger car occupants in fatal crashes rose from 28.1% in 1986 to 29.5% in 1987.
