During 1982, 43.721 men, women, and children died in motor vehicle traffic accidents. That's almost 120 people per day. This is an 11% decline from the 1981 death toll of 49, 301, and a 14% decline from the 1980 death toll of 51.091. Someone died on the Nation's highways every 12.5 minutes on average throughout 1982. More than 47% of all accidental daths in the U.S. during 1981 occurred on the Nation's highways.
