Samenvatting

Previous research in New Zealand has examined all non-traffic motorcycle/ATV crash fatalities, bicyclist injuries, and the involvement of alcohol in drownings. No attempt has been made, however, to provide an overall picture of fatalities associated with recreational vehicles, and to determine the extent to which alcohol may have been involved in these events. The aim of this study was to examine existing electronic databases to identify fatal crashes involving the operator of a recreational vehicle, and determine the extent to which the involvement of alcohol could ascertained from these data.
