Feasibility of changeable message signs and highway advisory radio for freeway maintenance.

Changeable message signs (CMSs) and Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) are playing increasing roles in mana-ging traffic. This report presents the findings of field studies conducted to detemine the feasibility of using these traffic management tools during freeway maintenance. The studies revealed that CMSs can be effective traffic manage-ment tools at freeway maintenance work zones when they are properly used.
