The results of the inquiry show that bicycle use is more influenced by the quality of public transport than by distance. Distance, delay time at traffic signals and delay at crossings of busy streets are important for route choice. Distance and delay time are variables in a travel resistance formula used in a computer model. The difference between the model and the observations have been analysed with the root mean square error. A stochastic multiple route assignment model gives the best fit. The values for delay time turned out to be less than the calculated times according to the formulas.
