A major increase in bicycle traffic is one of the Dutch government's main objectives for transportation policy. The bicycle is a recognized viable alternative to the car when it comes to travelling shorter distances. It is also a worthy option for longer distances when combined with public transport. Local and regional road authorities must invest in improving bicycle infrastructure to promote the use of transfer facilities. A bicycle network can play an important role in the realization of bicycle paths which deserve the highest priority during construction. These bicycle paths must be easy, safe, and comfortable to cycle on. Applying the capacity support methodology could prove a significant aid in selecting bicycle prove a significant aid in selecting bicycle paths.
