The Fit to Drive Congress is a further contribution to halving road traffic fatalities within the EU to around 25,000 in 2010. This objective is formulated in the “Road Safety Charter”, which was passed by the European traffic ministers in May 2004 in Dublin. The congress creates a forum at which European development perspectives for the promotion of individual fitness to drive are dealt with. The best possible support of individual mobility requirements must be in harmony with legitimate safety demands of society and safe road traffic. The co-operation of international competencies should serve to create building blocks for a European system that meets these needs. On the basis of its 50 years of relevant experience, Germany is to provide a qualified contribution. As the "1st International Traffic Expert Congress", Fit to Drive in Berlin will form the prelude to a series of subsequent events.
