The impacts of road traffic today require measures to be taken which meet with public acceptance. The General German Automobile Club (ADAC) has empirically investigated the effects of area- wide traffic restrictions and has made some practical recommendations aimed at helping towns planning such measures. The investigations carried out were based on a comparison of the behaviour of people affected before the introduction of area- wide traffic restriction measures, during a trial introductory and familiarization phase and after the implementation of all the individual measures shown to be worthwhile.
