Samenvatting

Previous research has indicated that daytime running lights can reduce the frequency of daytime multiple crashes. In this study over 2000 cars, vans and pick ups in three fleets were modified to operate with such lights. An inexpensive relay was installed on these vehicles to automatically turn on their front parking lights and rear tail lights with vehicle ignition. The proportion of multiple vehicle crashes relevant to daytime running lights that occurred during daytime hours was 7% lower.
