Samenvatting
The use of speed restrictions makes it possible to influence both the number and the severity of road accidents. It is not clear, however, which objective should be pursued when selecting specified speed limits for different road and traffic environments. First of all objectives based exclusively on traffic safety factors are presented. These objectives are then modified so as to include both vehicle costs and journey time costs.
